It
takes some doing to be able to speak through the lens, and for
Krupakar-Senani, the fervent photographer duo from the city, it's
a piece of cake. The awesome twosome, who work under the banner
'Krupakar Senani Features', regard Wildlife photography and filmmaking
as their forte.
Krupakar B S had a fair bit of stint as a journalist in Mangalore
and later in Bangalore, before he fell in love with photography
and took it up as his prime vocation. He found perfect company
in Senani Hegde who was more than eager in the same profession.
The common passion that they shared, led them to initiate their
journey to the woods. To begin with, they studied the small birds
in Mandya, thereby translating their observations and findings
into photographic images as well as on paper, in the form of articles.
From 1985-1993, they studied and photographed birds of the Western
Ghats extensively, focusing keenly on their breeding, habitat,
and the like.

| A
major highlight of their career is their study on wild dogs. They
ended up making a wildlife documentary titled 'Wild Dog Diaries'
that went on to win many awards in the country and abroad including
the Best of the Festival Grand Award 2007 at the Japanese Wildlife
Film Festival held at Toyama, Japan. It was during the course of
research and filming of this documentary that they were captured
by Veerappan, the dreaded forest brigand of the time. They spent
around two weeks in captivity with the bandit. The documentary struck
gold at the Festival de l'Oiseau del la Nature, France (2008), and
best Natural History and Wildlife Programme at Asian Television
Awards, Singapore (2007), as well.
Other
films produced by the duo are 'Forgotten Villages', 'Finding The
Link', 'Taming Of A River', 'Eden Of Hope', and 'Journey Through
Moyar'. They have written many books in addition to participating
in a couple of photo exhibitions too. They have contributed their
photographs to various books, magazines, and publications within
the country and abroad, including BBC Wildlife, People, GEO, Natural
History Magazine, and London Times. They have rendered their services
as wildlife consultants, producers, director-cameramen, and the
like for top production houses such as National Geographic Channel,
BBC, Channel 4, Discovery, and many Indian organizations as well.
They
won the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award from the Government of
Karnataka, for their book Jeeva Jaala, in the year 1999. They
were honoured with the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award from the Government
of Karnataka, for their overall contribution to the field of photography,
in the year 2006.
