Hailing from Mandya as his name would suggest,
Mandya Ramesh has carved a niche for himself in the acting circles
both on celluloid as well as on the stage. He is a vastly experienced
talent in the theatre arena with over 26 years of ceaseless know-how
as an actor, director, and organizer in many theatre groups in
the state.
His
obsession for theatre began in the year 1982 as part of the Geleyara
Balaga of Mandya at a theatre workshop. He then went on to work
with several other theatre groups such as Manka, Mandavya Sangha,
Vedike and so on. He also had the opportunity to work as an actor
at the popular Ninasam Thatre School in the mid eighties. He performed
at various shows through theatre camps in Vitla, Rakshidi, Sakleshpur,
Ponnampet, and Sundahalli,. His exceptional acting abilities prompted
renowned director B V Karanth to include him in the league of
actors at the Rangayana, Mysore. He toured New York and other
states of USA to perform the kannada version of the Greek play
Hippolitus with Rangayana team in the year 1993. He also experimented
the kannada version of Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer Night's
Dream' in Germany and Austria in the year 1996.

Mandya
Ramesh took many an initiative to help develop the acting culture
in the state. He was the founder director of Srishti Kodagu Ranga
regional repertoire. He organizes the Raja Maja theatre summer
camp on a regular basis. He is also the founder and head of the
Natana Weekend School of Drama in Mysore city. The construction
of Natana Rangamantapa, a desi style theatre auditorium in Ramakrishna
nagar of the city, was also carried out under his guidance. He
has also served as one of the expert members of the Drama Committee
of Cultural Department, Government of India, for a period of three
years (2000-01 to 2002-03).
Ramesh
had a dream debut in Sandalwood when he featured in the evergreen
hit Janumada Jodi produced by Dr. Rajkumar and directed by Nagabharana.
He then went on to work in various movies and today, he has acted
in over 96 films that include Nagamandala, Kanasugara, Colours,
Amruthadhaare, Maathad Maathad Mallige, and Mussanje Maathu.
The
phenomenal talent of Mandya Ramesh has brought him many awards
both in cinema as well as in the theatre arena. He has won best
supporting actor awards for movies such as Nagamandala (awarded
by the Govt of Karnataka), and Kanasugaara (viewer's choice category)
and even an award at the Udaya TV Knock Awards. He bagged the
best newcomer award presented to him by the Aryabhata Prashasthi
Chalana Chitra Premigala Sangha. The prestigious K V Shankara
Gowda Trust honoured him with the State Theatre Award. He also
bagged the Best Director Award for 3 successive years (1996
1998) at the esteemed Udupi Rangabhoomi Theater Festival. He directed
Agni Mathu Male, which was performed at the Multi Language Theatre
Festival, National School of Theatre, Vijaywada in the year 2006.
He was awarded the Best Director award for the same at the theatre
festival organized by Lavanya Association, Byndooru. He has another
Best Director award in his kitty for Thunta Robin presented to
him by Mumbai Karnataka Sangha at the Akhila Bharatha Kannada
Theatre Festival.
